Our home and native land!
OK, you got me – it’s not my home and native land. But seeing as Canadians have a terrific prime minister, gave the world the RCMP and invented two of the greatest foods on the planet, I’d say we’re all a little bit Canadian on Sunday, their national day.

Happy first day of summer everyone 🌞 this means BBQs and picnics and lots of al fresco eating – we can supply sharing tubs or for those bigger events: boxes of pre-cut Nanaimo bars (77 – 1×1 petit four size bars) – they truly are a bearhug for your tastebuds 😋 #bearhug4yourtastebuds #chocolate #coconut #nuts #custardcream #dessert #canada #uk #england #treat #dessert #dessertbar #picnic #alfresco #summertime
Which foods are these? Poutine and Nanaimo bars (pictured above in close-up mouthwatering detail), of course, and any craving for the former can be answered right here in the sunny North West. So now you have plans for the weekend.
Because the best way to celebrate Canada Day is heading to Brewski and mashing your face into a plate of chips, gravy and cheese curds.
Doesn’t float your boat? The vast menu at the self-style ‘home of North American comfort food’ will definitely have something to please, and even has options for non meat-eaters.
The first time I went, I was all about the pure pleasure of the Canadian national dish that’s so much more than ‘these, chips and gravy’.
Dark, meaty gravy made the perfect rich pool for chunky skin-on chips covered with lashings of soft, salty cheese, and all washed down with a Canadian beer – there are 14 rotating taps of craft beer, so there’s always something to choose from.
The place is always buzzing and obviously since the Chorlton branch opened last year it’s been a massive hit, because there’s now a second branch in the city centre on Mosley Street.
As well as turbo-charged poutine, they’ve also got souped-up mac’n’cheese and a vast array of pizzas, not to mention the positively immense roast dinners that have become South Manchester people pleasers.
Whatever you’re in the mood for, the venue is pretty chilled-out and very friendly, and the food is the real star of the show.
Really really makes me wish I was Canadian and then I could get away with eating this stuff daily. Right?
Brewski is at 537-539 Wilbraham Rd, Manchester M21 0UE and 58 W Mosley St, Manchester M2 3HZ
