Working in Stockport, going to hospital in Stockport and generally being sucked in by the whole Stopfordian vibe, I have been uncovering some of the bright spots in this hitherto unexplored metropolis in 2018.
It’s got places for interesting dining experiences and such – WTLGI for menu-free award-winning fare, The Allotment for vegan feasting and fine dining is in the works with Klok, which is planning a 2019 opening date.
But for this hungry worker bee, a lunch date was on the cards. We headed over the Cale Green, a leafy area just off the A6 with schools, hairdressers and doggy stylists lining the streets.
And in the midst of it all, the Funky Monkey Coffee Company.
On entry, it wasn’t blessed with salubrious decor – but neither was it an identikit coffee chain with the same Ikea-issued artworks on the wall.
This venue is quirky and fun, and the best bit, it’s got a lovely cuppa joe brewing.
I went for lunch, so teamed that coffee with the Funky Monkey Salad and oh my.
Couscous, olives, sundried tomatoes, great hulking dollops of houmous, it was so tasty and definitely aone great way of escaping the midday office slump.
They’ve also got a whole vegan menu and toasties for those who want something more substantial.
The cafe has been redecorating over the last couple of weeks, so I’m really excited about getting back and seeing what changes they’ve made.
Just one more reason for everyone to discover Stockport…
